RONALD McDONALD HOUSE – Dublin 8

Clancy Construction + Coady Architects

Envisioned by Coady Architects and expertly brought to life by Clancy Construction, the Ronald McDonald House reached completion in the final quarter of 2025 — a landmark achievement in strengthening family-focused care facilities in Dublin.

Located adjacent to the new National Children’s Hospital, the 52-bedroom residence has been carefully crafted to offer a peaceful and supportive setting for families of children undergoing treatment. The design prioritises warmth and wellbeing, blending spacious communal kitchens and shared living areas with dedicated playrooms and tranquil retreat spaces that encourage rest, privacy, and connection.

Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) were integral to the project’s success. By leveraging off-site fabrication and precisely coordinated site logistics the team enhanced build quality, accelerated delivery and navigated the complexities of a constrained city-centre environment with minimal disruption to the surrounding healthcare setting.

The project reflects the power of partnership. From the committed on-site workforce to the collaborative design consultants, specialist subcontractors and trusted suppliers, every contributor played a vital role in realising a building shaped by both technical expertise and genuine compassion. The result is more than bricks and mortar — it is a place of reassurance and belonging during life’s most challenging moments.

Designed as a true home away from home, the new facility goes far beyond providing accommodation. It offers welcoming communal kitchens, comfortable lounges, engaging play areas and quiet rooms for reflection — all supported by modern amenities and thoughtful detailing. Representing a 160% increase in capacity over the previous House, the development significantly expands the charity’s ability to support families and is set to officially open in 2026.

Purpose-built to serve families whose children require long-term critical care, the House sits immediately west of the hospital campus, just inside the existing Brookfield/South Circular Road entrance. Its close proximity to clinical services ensures families remain connected to care, while benefiting from a nurturing environment that includes fully equipped facilities for cooking, cleaning, dining, washing and sleeping — a supportive setting available for however long their child’s treatment journey may last.

Clancy Construction is honoured to have played a role in creating a place that will support families for years to come.
