Purcell Construction + Urban Agency Architects
“The Quayside Project,” a beacon of modern design graces the Docklands. This New Water Sports Centre, a marvel of architecture stands proudly on Custom House Quay adjacent to Georges Dock. Conceived by the innovative Urban-Agency Architects and expertly constructed by Purcell Construction it is a monument to their collaborative vision.
This €23 million Quayside project extends beyond recreational pursuits. It thoughtfully incorporates essential facilities for the Dublin Fire Brigade’s Water Rescue Service and the Irish Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. These include dedicated office and rescue pontoon spaces within the Docklands.
The Quayside Project is more than just a construction project; it’s a reimagining of the Docklands. Beyond the main structures it incorporates several key elements. Extended pontoons will make the waterfront more accessible offering new ways to experience the River Liffey. Two architecturally designed Glulam timber frame structures, supporting the Jeanie Johnston provide both strength and visual appeal. A new visitor attraction and water sports centre will further enhance the area while the upgraded public realm including an extended boardwalk sponsored by the NTA will become a focal point for community activity. This boardwalk will also provide more access to the River Liffey for activities such as Kayaking and Paddle Boarding.
The aim according to Dublin City Council (DCC) is to transform the Docklands into a dynamic hub. This revitalisation will support active transport, boost tourism and promote environmental engagement and enrich cultural life all while encouraging greater public interaction with the River Liffey. The new Water Sports Centre will be managed by Swan Leisure.
The Quayside Project belongs to all who live, work, and visit this great city,”
